- No Sinner, no Djokovic. World No. 1 Jannik Sinner withdrew before the draw with a knee injury, which moved Alexander Zverev to the top seeding. Novak Djokovic then lost his opening match to Mariano Navone, his first first round exit at the US Open.
- Alcaraz is the man to beat. The defending champion has yet to drop a set and meets Ben Shelton in tonight’s second match.
- Sabalenka wants a third straight title. No woman has won three US Opens in a row since Serena Williams in 2014. Iga Swiatek is already out, beaten by Qinwen Zheng in the round of 16.
- Mixed doubles is done. Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik won the Fan Week event on August 26, beating Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli 6-3, 1-6, 10-6.
