Indianapolis set its initial 53 man roster on August 30. Here is what changed and what it means for the opener.
- Quarterback: Daniel Jones is the starter on a two year, $88 million deal, fully cleared through camp and the preseason after December 2025 Achilles surgery. Shane Steichen named Anthony Richardson Sr. the backup on September 3 after he beat out second year quarterback Riley Leonard, so the passer who asked for a trade in the offseason opens the season as QB2.
- Receivers: Alec Pierce returned to practice in early September after offseason ankle surgery, and general manager Chris Ballard says the hope is he plays Week 1. Keenan Allen signed a one year deal in August while Pierce recovered. Josh Downs, Ashton Dulin, Laquon Treadwell and rookie Deion Burks round out the group. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine did not make the initial 53.
- Tight end: Tyler Warren picked up an abductor strain in the August 19 joint practice with Atlanta but was back on the field by September 1 and is expected to play the opener. The Colts kept only three tight ends, with Will Mallory on injured reserve.
- Defense: Cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt, signed in free agency in March, serves a one game suspension in Week 1 under the personal conduct policy, so the secondary opens a man short next to Sauce Gardner.
- Offseason turnover: Michael Pittman Jr. was traded to Pittsburgh and linebacker Zaire Franklin to Green Bay. Edge rusher Arden Key arrived in free agency.

Washington is the designated home team for the Week 4 game in London, so it counts as a Colts road game and Lucas Oil Stadium keeps all eight of its dates. The Bengals game gets its Week 16 slot no later than the end of Week 14, and Week 18 is set once Week 17 finishes. Sunday afternoon kickoffs from Week 11 onward can also move under flexible scheduling, so late season times are not final until a few weeks out.
